Questions
Are the skeletons and fossils real?
Yes. Every skeleton is traced from O. C. Marsh’s own plates in The Dinosaurs of North America, 1896. Every fossil is a real specimen, from photographs that museums share openly under CC0 or CC BY 4.0, and each design names its specimen and its catalogue number. Nothing is invented.
Embroidered or printed?
The stitched skeletons are embroidered across the chest in one thread, white on dark colours and navy on light ones. The field plates and the field guides add a small stitch on the left chest and print the full design on the back. The formations, the drawer and the fossils in colour are printed on the front.
Who was O. C. Marsh?
Othniel Charles Marsh (1831 to 1899) was an American palaeontologist who named Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Brontosaurus, among many others. His book The Dinosaurs of North America (1896) gathered his restorations of their skeletons; it is in the public domain.
Are the names up to date?
Where science has moved on, the design says so. Marsh’s Claosaurus annectens is Edmontosaurus today, and Knight’s Laelaps is Dryptosaurus. Brontosaurus was folded into Apatosaurus in 1903 and became its own genus again in 2015.
Are the museums involved?
No. They share these photographs openly, under CC0 or CC BY 4.0, and we credit each one. They are not partners and do not endorse these pieces. The full list is on the credits page.
What colours are there?
Tees in Navy, Pepper, Spruce, Moss and Bone. Sweatshirts in Navy, Pepper, Spruce and Mudstone. Hoodies in Pine, Cypress, Shale, Bone and Sandstone. Caps in Navy, Shale, Spruce and Stone. Totes in Navy and Natural. Light inks and white thread go on the dark colours, dark inks and navy thread on the light ones.
How do I choose my size?
The tee, the sweatshirt and the hoodie each have a table in centimetres in the size guide. The tee and the sweatshirt are relaxed: take your usual size. The hoodie is cut loose: check the measures first. Caps and totes are one size.
